Three years ago our rent control legislation failed for the wrong reason. Let’s try again.
In April 2022 we asked another group, R.A.D. to team up. R.A.D. soon adopted FERA as superior to the amendment they had promoted in Burlington, but decided our emergency housing project was too radical. RAD added the endless lease (section B). RAD rushed to publish the new version, calling it “Just Cause Eviction” (JCE) . But they did this without checking with our attorney. RAD’s JCE was the result of this hasty work. Under section B Brattleboro could require landlords to rent to their tenants as long as tenants wanted, even after the agreed expiration of a lease. This proposal made a lofty statement of a new human right over property rights, and it demanded that the housing be provided by a class of people—landlords — and not by the public or government. We feared it would be panned by legislative counsel and that the legislature would reject it. We argued that it would be an embarrassment and a setback to the entire tenants rights movement. In March 2023 the voters rejected it.
BCS is almost ruined by three years of lawsuits about our emergency homeless shelter. So, we need some help to restart the rental legislation. This time should be easy.

Preserving social justice education in Vermont

Should government have authority more than parents over their children ? Discuss this and the BackTo Basics policies for preserving social justice education in Vermont.
We must appease Mr. Trump, who is threatening to defund our schools and will start a backlash against trans people, who are not criminals but are being used by the health industry and liberal organizers.
Now “Back To Basics” will cut intermural sports, allow more simple exercise, and provide classes on philosophy and religion in our schools. Most importantly it puts standardized online materials on transgenderism, sex, and politics under parental control for optional study at home.
This year the budget crisis is worse than ever, but officials can’t reach any compromise on spending. Back To Basics will mean big savings for angry tax-payers. Without it Trump may destroy social justice education in Vermont schools.

Reviving Traditional Feminism

BCS is almost ruined after three years of unfair lawsuits from the town, but we’re building back and also organizing as an expressly feminist organization. The feminists of the early 19th century was about much more than equal rights. They advocated suffrage, temperance, abolition, labor rights, and pacifism, forming the heart and backbone of all political progress in the United states. We stand on their shoulders. But feminism has a bad rap, even among liberals. The racism trope about them comes from Sojourner Truth saying “Ain’t I a woman” and demanding to speak: it was a planned event with scheduled speakers. “Me, Too” is equal rights for super-rich women-executives and actresses, not real feminism. You are invited to discuss a feminist revival and propose a feminist agenda for BCS.
