Discussion of Back To Basics for Windham County as below
Writing for the Vermont Rural Schools Community Alliance earlier this month, Dr. Cheryl Charles advises cooperation and thrift will save Vermont’s schools from the threats redistricting. But in our opinion the greatest threat to our schools is Mr. Trump. His education department is threatening to defund Vermont’s system for sex discrimination under Title 9. Law and common sense aside, he often wins in the end, because the process is the punishment, and he has all the power. Substantial, painful cuts are needed to prepare against this threat, because this is a NO KINGS emergency. Let’s compromise, cut our losses and focus on the basics, Cutting the fat (inter-mural sports do nothing that non-contact sports do for students’ alertness, and they account for the lion share of school insurance expenses!) Enabling parents to teach is also a thrifty use of volunteer skills.
BACK TO BASICS —
1. Barring prayer, teach (not preach) classes in philosophy and comparative religion, including Christianity and the Bible in literature and history
2. teach mammalian sex and reproduction only as pertinent to general biology
3. to honor parents’ control over childrens’ moral, social, sexual and political education
a. eliminate non-educational activities in which schools appear to act as social directors or matchmakers for the students, namely: dances, parties, and intermural sports programs and associated parties, while allowing graduation ceremonies
b. replace in-person classes on sensitive subjects of a moral, sexual and political nature, namely DEI, transgenderism, sex and critical race theory with standardized (online)instruction under parental control,
c. offer classes to adults with or without student children.
4. Increase physical education time 15 minutes above state requirement
