BRATTLEBORO – The activist singer/songwriting duo Emma’s Revolution invites the community to get “recharged, inspired and energized” at a benefit concert for Southern Vermont for Palestine and All Souls Church on Saturday, Oct. 25. The live concert will take place at All Souls Church, 29 South Street in West Brattleboro starting at 7 p.m.

Known for fearless, truth-telling lyrics and melodies, Emma’s Revolution is the award-winning activist duo of Pat Humphries & Sandy O. Their signature soaring harmonies and lush acoustic instruments span folk to jazz and funk to rock. Performing as a duo for almost 25 years, the pair have lent their voices to a range of social justice movements.

They independently chose to support Southern Vermont for Palestine, an all-volunteer group of area parents, artists, teachers, students, and workers who oppose Israel’s genocide in Gaza and apartheid occupation of the West Bank. The group calls for freedom, justice, equality, sovereignty, and democracy for all people in the region between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

“In this intense and unprecedented time, when lives are on the line in Gaza and our rights, norms and democracy are on the line here in the US, all of our voices are needed to create the country and the world we want to live in,” the duo said in a statement.

“The music of Emma’s Revolution has inspired my activism for years,” noted Shana Frank, a member of Southern Vermont for Palestine. “Songs such as Pat’s classic “Keep on Moving Forward” fuel me with energy to organize for Palestinian rights and to defend civil liberties at home.”

As independent artists and queer and non-conforming women, Emma’s Revolution has a national presence among communities, organizations and venues that share the duo’s values of people over profit, compassion over violence, demanding accountability and building a more just and sustainable world.

Emma’s Revolution carries on in the spirit of their mentor, Pete Seeger, who once told NPR,  “The powers that be can control the media but it’s hard to stop a good song… Pat’s songs will be sung well into the 22nd century.”

Emma’s Revolution have sung for peace, justice and equality in Palestine and Israel throughout their career. Most recently, they have been writing and performing songs to meet this moment in our country, including “You Are Not God”, inspired by the courageous call for mercy by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde at the Interfaith Service of Prayer for the Nation the day after the 2025 Inauguration.

The duo wrote “We Are the Power” to sing at demonstrations in Washington DC in support of federal workers purged from their jobs by the current administration; and they continue to sing the song at concerts and demonstrations across the country. Their latest song, “Libre El Pueblo”, sung at San Francisco’s Federal Building in July, was part of a successful campaign to keep a young undocumented man out of the hands of ICE.

Award-winning independent filmmaker Tom Weidlinger is working on a feature documentary, KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD, about Emma’s Revolution and their work on the frontlines of peace and social justice movements. In 2024, Emma’s Revolution performed a unique concert in celebration of the duo’s 20+ years that was filmed for the documentary. It featured legendary activist performer Holly Near and a stellar gathering of musician friends from across the country.

Emma’s Revolution credits their long history together to the depth of their friendship and their commitment to justice and the justice-seeking communities. “Especially in these times—with the threat to our democracy, wars, climate chaos and the continuing effects of the pandemic—we are buoyed and inspired by the activists and communities we work with,” said Pat. “Singing is part of what keeps us grounded and connected to one another. “We love that folks seek us and our music out to keep themselves energized in challenging times.”
