This Friday night event combines performances and sing-along opportunities, using music as a tool for community-building, connection, protest and activism.

When: Friday, 9/19/2025 at 7:00 pm

Where: All Souls Church, 29 South St., West Brattleboro

Featuring: Lisa McCormick, The MacArthur Family, Big Woods Voices, and George Carvill

*Admission by donation. Suggested donation: $10 – $50. No one turned away for lack of funds.*

Host Becky Graber is the founder of both the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus and the Good Trouble Street Choir.

George Carvill, former journalist, long-time activist and co-founder of Song and Solidarity, will kick off the program, followed by the a cappella quartet Big Woods Voices (Alan Blood, Amanda Witman, Will Danforth, and Becky Graber.) Will, a singer-songwriter, and Amanda, co-founder of the Brattleboro Pub Sing, will also lead songs for singing. As Amanda says, “I believe that the songs we sing together shape the world we inhabit”.

Other performer/song leaders will be Lisa McCormick, another talented multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter; well-known in Brattleboro for leading a community ukulele revolution.

The MacArthur Family, Dan, Gary, and Megan MacArthur from Marlboro, will share a traditional Vermont sound – ballads, songs of country life, and fiddle tunes, with great instrumentals and clear, sweet harmonies.

Come join in the listening and singing and support Indivisible Brattleboro’s good work on behalf of democracy and justice.

Additional biographical information:

Dan, Gary, and Megan MacArthur have lived their entire lives on MacArthur Road in Marlboro, Vermont, and grew up listening to the traditional folksongs sung and played by their mother, Margaret MacArthur. This rich background and their rural lifestyle influences their music. Megan’s voice, called “a clear fluid instrument” in SingOut magazine, is complemented by Dan and Gary’s great singing and stirring harmonies. With Dan’s talented guitar work and homemade songs, Gary’s skillful mandolin and fiddle playing, and Megan on bass, the MacArthur Family creates a sound that effortlessly carries the listener deep into the history and culture of traditional Vermont life.

Big Woods Voices unites four veteran area singers celebrating their common passion for a cappella harmony: Will Danforth haunts the “roots” region as an acoustic multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and arranger/composer from temples to taprooms and toddlers to elders. Alan Blood is a long-time member of area groups including the Blanche Moyse Chorale, I Cantori, Blue Moon and House Blend. Becky Graber founded and leads the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus, now in its 30th year.  Amanda Witman is co-founder and leader of the Brattleboro Pub Sing since 2011, and leads a weekly Folk & Trad Singers’ Workshop for adults at the Brattleboro Music Center.
